One of the important functions of the club is to provide communications in remote areas during community events. For example, members volunteer to support aid stations for the
Six Gap Bike Race and the
Georgia Death Race. Much of this activity is in mountainous areas without cell coverage. If a runner or cyclist is injured at the event, a member volunteer coordinates with local law enforcement and EMT to get care to where it is needed.
Our first official meeting took place at the Union County Public Library on February 6, 2003. The club has remained in continuous operation since that time.
